Description
Koreans Sing in English by Juniper Kim is a memoir comic about consuming anglophone music as a Korean person. Painted in large watercolor spreads, it tells three stories simultaneously: Juniper’s journey into adulthood, their father’s experience with sonic warfare during army training, and a history of Korean-American relations spanning the last century.
Juniper uses lush and moody watercolor to evoke the fog of memories and stories told. Koreans Sing in English is a deftly executed triptych juxtaposing the personal, intergenerational, and geopolitical issues, exploring memory and the passage of time through sound.
