Description
In Where Am I? Priya Huq explores her relationship with the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. A teenager at the time, Priya worried about her uncle who worked in downtown Manhattan, and whose commute took him through the complex below the towers. The attacks gave nationalists and racists permission to openly display their hate for anything that isn’t white, a permission Priya points out is still alive and well today. Even more “well meaning” white people were swept up in the justification for decades of war, torture, rape, and misery.
Priya deftly tells a personal narrative of growing up in a post 9-11 America. Emotionally raw and sociopolitically insightful, Where Am I? contributes complexity to an often simplified subject matter.
