Description
Tom Neely’s book Unfinished contains three experimental comics poems dedicated to his friend cartoonist & small press publisher, Dylan Williams, who passed away in 2011.
In the first two poems, “I Just Figured it All Out” and “Noise”, Tom’s use of golden-age animation tropes, mixed with imagery of pain, murder and abuse creates an unsettling read. The poems are violent and erratic.
“Unfinished,” the final poem is far more somber, and uses imagery from Dylan’s comic, Reporter, to investigate loss, mourning, and the feeling of being left behind after the death of a friend.
Nate Doyle contributes portraits of Tom and Dylan.
