In issue one, we meet Trey, a recent college drop out, as he returns home to break the news to his mother. On his return he comes to learn his sister has run away from home. Finding her would be hard enough, but it’s all complicated by the fact half of the town he grew up in has given up their ability to speak English.
CM introduces us to a nuanced story with humor and drama that quickly draws you in. CM’s use of a retro cartooning style—connecting to early animation’s roots within minstrel shows—places his characters visually within the racist system that is the United States.
This comic also contains the science fiction short story, And All the Cover Girls Go.
