Description
Springtime in Chicago collects daily journal comics by Cathy Hannah, from March 1 to May 31, 2016. As Cathy’s March begins, she’s building up courage to ask out her crush, and she’s pretty sure her beloved cat, Salty is going to die from kidney failure soon. As the spring progresses, her expectations don’t play out. There’s a guy at work she likes more than her original crush, Salty’s health fluctuates, some days are good and some days are rotten. Throughout the comic, Cathy fights against her depression, and relies on therapy, her best friends, her mother, her cats, and even TEDTalks to help her find her internal strength.
Cathy’s diary entries are honest and open, revealing a great deal about herself to the reader. They are tiny windows, a four-panel strip reveals very few details, so we are exposed more to the underlying emotions of self-doubt, self-loathing, self-empowerment, and punk-fueled defiance!
Open these pages, and you are sure to relate to the feelings Cathy expertly captures in these snapshots.
