Description
In Marnie Galloway’s wordless minicomic, Self Dual, we observe as a scientist takes samples and notes about the mountain she is exploring. We also see a woman who lives in the mountain and communes with a geometric magic that allows her to connect with the surrounding life forces. The investigation of the inquisitive scientist eventually reveals the magic woman in the mountain who does not want to be found.
The title of the comic suggests this is more a tale of the nature of the two women rather than the the women themselves, a conflict between our search for scientific truths and the preservation of sacred truths. Interestingly, the analytical woman is almost always seen on the left hand page, while the more creative woman is almost always seen on the right hand page, mimicking the orbs of our brains
