Description
Alec Longstreth documents his continue geeking-out for the band, Weezer in the second part of his “Weezer Fan Trilogy.” In the first part (in Phase 7 No. 017), Alec documented his obsession with the band by going track-by-track through the band’s Blue Album, telling stories that relate to each song. Part two focuses on a single narrative surrounding the release of Weezer’s second album, Pinkerton, which had a similarly mind-expanding effect as the first did on Alec’s high schooler mind. The bulk of Alec’s story centers around attending his first Weezer concert in the wake of the sudden deaths of the official Weezer Fan Club’s presidents.
The mixing the mourning of lost friends with Alec’s reliable heart-pounding enthusiasm makes for a more complex story than the first issue -just as Pinkerton is a more layered, less poppy album than the Blue Album. Alec deftly captures the energy and nervousness that comes with seeing your favorite band live! In true nerd-tastic fashion, Alec finishes off the issue with a pages-long apology for accidentally causing a photo that was CLEARLY taken July 15, 1997 be listed in a Weezer book as having been taken on November 6, 1996!!! As you read his explanation as to how such an egregious error could happen, you can feel the tectonic plates of fandom shudder!
