Description
The main stories in Papercutter No. 3 are thematically linked.
Elijah Brubaker tells of Hubert, constantly-high, unemployed, philandering, slacker whose relationship with his girlfriend Sophie is hanging by a thread, but he can not get himself to change his ways. Â His best friend, a writer named Ray both criticizes and enables Hubert. Â Even when Hubert reads a story Ray is working on about a sad sack drifting through life, Hubert sees the tragedy, but does not identify with the loser.
Graham Annable’s back up story is a tale of redemption for past sins. A young man, David travels his home town on behalf of his brother Charlie who has dragged the family name through the mud.  David delivers Charlie’s messages of remorse for past acts to those he’s hurt, and the promise they will never have to see him again.  But what is the cause of this reversal in Charlie’s behavior? The simple energy in Graham’s art and light humor helps make this one of my favorite comics from the Papercutter series.
Lilli Carré delights us with single page comic of a day in the life of a Mandolin Man.
Nate Beaty provides flawless end pages as usual.
