Description

Ms. Bean’s Art Class No. 1 is a collection of observations on teaching high school art classes.  Most of the short vignettes of Ms. Bean’s work day revolve around her problem solving with bored or unruly students. Her primary strategy seems to be to act like a goof-ball.  A few shorter pieces skew toward the sillier, like running into a student having strategically drawn boobs on an apron.

This issue is grounded by a touching letter to the mother of one of Ms. Bean’s students, Suubi.  Subbi was sent to the US by her mother in Uganda for a better life -one Suubi’s mother is not able to share.  Now, as Suubi is about to graduate, Ms. Bean articulates the joys and challenges she sees in her student’s life.
