Description
Cara Bean’s nonlinear reflections on a difficult time in her life continue in Gorilla Year No. 2. Â In graduate school, Cara’s life seemed to be falling apart, living in her painting studio, sleep deprived, she found herself depressed and angry, relying too much on substances like coffee and beer to keep her going.
Cara’s dream-like sequences dissolve into reality and back again into surreality. The attempt to apply art theory from Sol Lewitt illustrates this rift between understanding and experiencing the comic. If by the end of the comic you are still trying to apply rigid interpretations, Jane Goodall reprimands you not to apply human emotion to things that act in the same way as humans. The comic ends with a gorilla eating and regurgitating its food repeatedly. Cara, the amateur animal behaviorist turns to a confused mother and son to admit she doesn’t know what’s going on.
Issue two really fleshes out a series that only seems to be getting better with each issue. I can’t wait for issue three to drop!

“This is an amusing stream-of-consciousness series…”
