Description
It’s senior year in college, and art majors Helen and Clayton have been assigned a studio together. One catch though…Clayton hasn’t signed up for any sort of housing, so Helen agrees to let him live in their shared studio space. Â Back of the Knee tells the story of a friendship pushed to its limits, of depression and uncertainty.
Julia Gootzeit tells this story that -while fiction- feels all too real through a painted comic, which plays off the themes of studying art in college. Both Julia’s writing and cartooning style mixed with the paint walks a fine line between cartoony and naturalistic, and perfectly captures difficult roommate and friend relationships.
