Originally trained as a cognitive scientist at MIT, LILY THU FIERRO splits her time between finding meaning in data, making comics with her husband, Generoso, and writing short fiction and creative nonfiction. Her work has appeared in Lumina and diaCRITICS and is forthcoming in X-R-A-Y, and her research has been published in journals and conference proceedings related to artificial intelligence, biocomputing, and computational cognitive science.
Her stories explore the tensions between individual perception and memory with external realities in our technology driven era through perspectives from the Vietnamese diaspora.
GENEROSO FIERRO first honed his skills as an illustrator while majoring in Visual Arts at The Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. During his years at the school, Generoso studied under acclaimed artist Phil Sumpter, who furthered Generoso’s desire to create alternative comics. In the years that followed, Generoso would incorporate the training that he acquired at the school as a fine arts painter into his comics style.
A documentarian, film programmer, and lifelong cineaste, Generoso was awarded a commendation in 2013 from The Boston Society of Film Critics for his many years of curating arthouse cinema, and he takes his love and knowledge of film into his visual aesthetic when making experimental comics with his wife, Lily.
